OPTIONAL 1: June 18: Witchcraft and SON.

ANSWER ONLY questions you feel comfortable with.

If you don't answer at all, OK.

Do you know of any interesting superstitions present in your tribe?

Do you hold any belief in the supernatural? For instance, do you believe in miracles?
Do you believe in good spirits (angels etc.)?
Do you believe in prayer to saintly figures or higher entities?

Are you skeptical about beliefs of other religions?
Are you skeptical about *some* beliefs of your own religion?

  1. Where I come from there is so many superstitions I dont even know where to start. The one that I was remembered was that when you give perfume to someone you have a give them money back or something can happen to your relationship.

I believe in miracles because i believe in god . To me Miracle are often second chance from god and showing how life can flip without our control . miracles is a form of hope that humans feed off of.

I question religion in general . I ask my own and others as well.

I am skeptical about what I am told to believe in religion .

  2. Haitians believe in lots of superstitions. Like you don’t throw a way bread without wetting it. If you do money will never come to you or if you put your bag on the floor you will never have great ideas.
I do believe in God. And I do believe in supernatural like miracles.
I don’t believe in saintly figures. And very skeptical about beliefs because many people don’t ask questions just to fallow.
I respect all beliefs In hopes they respect mine.

    1. Hi Alexandre. You have mentioned a key point that I always emphasize to my parents- questioning your religion. I think it is imperative to question one's beliefs in order to strengthen this belief or to find out that you don't agree with certain things. My religion, in particular, encourages followers to ask questions and to educate ourselves.

  3. We have COUNTLESS superstitions. I will describe a few:
    1) If you sew after sundown, you are sewing a bird's eyes.
    2) If your right hand itches, you will soon get money. If your left hand twitches, you will soon loose money.
    3) Breaking glass unintentionally means good luck.
    4) Eating fish and drinking milk together will give you white spots around your skin.
    5) Walking over a child's leg can stunt your growth.
    6) Giving gifts will make your friends walk away from you in life.
    7) Sitting on a pillow will give the next person who sleeps on it headaches.

I specifically mention these 7 superstitions because I live with them everyday. My mom puts restrictions on us in terms of these superstitions. It has now become so routine for us that is a habit to follow these superstitions.

Because we believe in God, we also believe in miracles. There is one miracle that I have been praying for a few days now. I certainly hope it comes true because I rest all things in the hands of God. We only pray to one God, no one else. In relation, we also believe in good spirits like angels, and we also believe in bad spirits like satan or jinn. Jinns can be good or bad. I am not skeptical about any of my religious beliefs. I do not know many religious beliefs from other religions so I cannot intelligently comment on this.

    1. Rabia, I really think it is so beautiful how much you know about your religion because to me in today's society and youth it kinda appears that if you know about religion or if you believe in certain things it isn't "cool". I also think its amazing that you are not skeptical about your religion at all, and I mean no disrespect at all but I also do think sometimes you should question the beliefs you have.

    2. Hi Nicoletta. I appreciate your kind words. I have taken no offense, and I do question my beliefs daily. However, in the 21st century, the vast amounts of information we have gained through science all reconfirm what is mentioned in the Qur'an (our holy book), which was written over a thousand years ago! Surely, the science mentioned in the Qur'an was unknown back then, and so I accept our religion whole-heartedly.

I do feel upset when I see so many individuals claiming they follow a certain religion, but they do not reflect that religion's ideals. However, I am no one to judge them and everyone has their own life and their own decisions.

    3. I checked my comments for mistakes before posting, but it seems as if there are still a few mistakes. I would like to point them out so that my culture's superstitions are not misunderstood.

      2) If you left hand itches*, not twitches
      6) Giving shoes* as gifts will make your friends walk away from you in life. All other gifts are fine.

  4. Coming from a Greek background theres a couple superstitions that I can think of right off the bat. We highly believe in the evil eye, and that if someone is jealous of you they can give you the evil eye which can make you ill. We also believe that honey cures all, and that if you are admiring someone you can spit on them and you wont give them the evil eye, like if you think a baby is cute you would spit on them to make sure you do not give them the evil eye. We also believe that if your ear is ringing, someone is talking about you behind your back.

I do believe in the supernatural, and I have always been very intrigued with the supernatural. I think everything about ghosts, witches, and vampires is very cool. On that note, I do believe in miracles, do I know where they come from? Absolutely not. Do I understand why some people receive miracles and others do not, no. But I believe that miracles exist.

I do believe in good spirits, I believe that when someone passes away sometimes they stay with their loved ones to make sure they are okay in their life and help them along the way. I believe that good spirits can visit you in your dreams and help give you signals on how to better your life or get past a hard time you are dealing with.

I'm not skeptical about other religions beliefs because I think every religion comes with their own beliefs in what they think is right and wrong. Who am I to doubt or question them. I never believed to know enough about another religion to question it.

I do on the other hand question some beliefs in my own religion, for a while I did not believe in anything that my religion preached. I do still think its ridiculous that people think they need to go to church to pray, because if God is everywhere why can't I pray at home and it mean the same thing. But growing up and going through certain life situations I have come to terms that faith is very important, in a sense it gives you clarity and allows you to feel some safety when you are all alone.
